The on-going promos of Saat Khoon Maaf have put Annu Kapoor back in the spotlight.
Best remembered as the host of Antakshari, the actor-anchor is looking at B-Town afresh after essaying one of the husbands of Priyanka Chopra in Vishal Bhardwaj's movie. He is also launching his own production house.
Here he talks about PC's reservations about doing intimate scenes with him, and about his sister Seema Kapoor and actor Om Puri getting together again...
You are seen on the big screen after a long gap Aitraaz released in 2004?
Ironically, two movies got released in between with me in very prominent roles but due to total lack of publicity and other defects, nobody even noticed me!
What was your first reaction when told that you had to play one of Priyanka Chopra's husbands in Saat Khoon Maaf?
I was more interested in my character and what role I am supposed to portray and what importance it holds in the film. I wasn't bothered who was playing my wife whether it was Priyanka or Paris Hilton!
How was the experience working with Vishal Bhardwaj?
Superb. He is a brilliant filmmaker who knows each and every department of filmmaking.
Priyanka had reservations about doing intimate scenes with you.
Yes. I was told that she had reservations doing steamy scenes with me but that did not bother me at all. Nevertheless, she felt comfortable doing some hot scenes with the others!
This clearly proves one thing that if I were a hero - a ham artiste or even a lousy actor things would have been different. So baby, you better be a buff hero and forget the talent!
You plan to float a production house. Will it produce TV serials or films and will you act in them as well?
Amadeus Entertainment Pvt. Ltd is the name of our company.
We have been working very hard to establish Amadeus as a production house that will provide wholesome entertainment with a difference. Now it is up to the channels to give us a chance to work with them.
A lot is being reported about Om Puri wanting to get back with your sister, his ex-wife.
People use the media to sensationalise their private lives without realising that their children will be affected negatively and severely, no matter how positively they try to portray themselves. I hope that God gives them wisdom.
Your name is synonymous with the TV show Antakshari. What do you think of the current music-based shows?
Antakshari was one of the few original concepts on Indian television. Present-day music-based shows seem to be all the same, having no originality at all.
Most of the time, those chosen to judge do not have the credibility to judge. I am a professional artiste who waits and hopes for the right projects with the right kind of producers.
